Quick verdict

For most homes, the PHILIPS Starlit 12 m string cost ₹219, carries an outdoor rating and draws 6 W. Indoors, on your shelves and photo frames, the MANSAA copper fairy lights had the highest rating here, 4.3 across 21,391 ratings, for ₹187. For a window, the Desidiya 10 Stars curtain ranked #1 in Specialty Lighting at ₹299 and is the only one with a stated splash rating.

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday, 8 November, and most homes put their lights up a week or more before. A string that stays on every evening for a week has to suit the place you hang it, and its listing has to tell you the truth about that.

We read seven LED string lights on Amazon.in on 18 October: two USB copper strings for shelves, a plug in string and a long rice light for railings, two curtains for windows and one bulb string for a terrace. Prices ran from ₹129 to ₹1,616.

Each one is set against the Diwali fire safety advice from Warwickshire County Council's fire and rescue service, and each card flags the places where a listing contradicts itself.

How to choose

Where will the string hang?

Start with the place, not the look. Indoors, any of these seven will do. On an open balcony or a terrace, the Warwickshire fire and rescue service advises lights designed for outdoor use, protected from rain and moisture.

Check the Indoor or Outdoor field in each listing's details table, and look for an IP code. The second digit of an IP code covers water: 4 means protection from splashes from any direction, and 0 means no protection at all. A listing can say waterproof and still carry IP30, as the fizzytech set does.

USB or a wall socket?

USB strings like the MANSAA and the Crompton run at 5 V from a phone charger or a power bank. That makes them a good fit for shelves, frames and table centrepieces, where a socket is far away.

Mains strings and curtains go into a wall socket, often through an extension board. The council's advice is to check cords and sockets before you decorate, replace any worn or damaged cord, and not to overload sockets or extension boards. It also suggests a surge protector or an extension board with a built in circuit breaker, and our extension board and surge protector comparison can help you choose one.

How much string do you need?

Measure the railing, the window or the shelf first, then add a little for the drop to the socket. For a dense glow, look at spacing as well as length. The copper strings and the Desidiya rice lights put one LED about every 10 cm, while the Philips spaces 72 LEDs over 12 metres, about one every 17 cm.

What will a week of evenings cost?

Multiply the wattage by the hours. Six hours a night for the seven nights of a Diwali week is 42 hours. At 3 W that is about 0.13 units, at 6 W about 0.25, at 12 W about 0.5, and at 50 W about 2.1. Multiply by the rate per unit on your electricity bill for your cost. Two listings here give no wattage, so you can't do this sum for them.

1. PHILIPS Starlit 12 Meter 72 LEDs String Light, Warm White: best overall for diwali

₹219

4.2 out of 5 on Amazon.in (3,036 ratings)

₹219 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

The Philips Starlit string is the safe default for a Diwali railing or doorway. Its Amazon.in listing gives 12 metres of wire with 72 LEDs, a draw of 6 W, and an Outdoor rating in the details table. The bullets add that it's weather resistant and that clips come in the box, so you can fix it to a wall or a frame without tape.

On the day we checked it cost ₹219 and held 4.2 stars across 3,036 ratings, #34 in Specialty Lighting. Over a Diwali week of six hours a night, 6 W comes to about a quarter of a unit on your bill. One thing to know before you order: 72 LEDs over 12 metres puts one light about every 17 cm, so it reads as a dotted line, not a dense glow.

  • Length: 12 m
  • LEDs: 72
  • Wattage: 6 W
  • Use: Outdoor, per the details table
  • Colours: 7, including warm white and cool white
  • Warranty: No warranty, per the listing
  • Made in: India

Good

  • Outdoor rating and weather resistance stated.
  • Clips included, per the bullets.
  • Low draw for its length, 6 W.

Watch out

  • The listing states no warranty.
  • Wide spacing, about one LED every 17 cm.
  • Fewer ratings than most here, 3,036.

2. MANSAA Copper Wire Fairy String Lights, 10 m, 100 LEDs, USB, Warm Yellow: highest rated for indoor shelves

₹187

4.3 out of 5 on Amazon.in (21,391 ratings)

₹187 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

If your lights go on a bookshelf, a mirror or a photo wall, a thin copper wire string makes more sense than a mains string. The MANSAA string had the highest score in this group, 4.3 stars across 21,391 ratings, for ₹187. Its listing gives 10 metres with 100 LEDs at 3000 K warm yellow, a 5 V DC USB connection, a 3 W draw and an 18 month warranty, the longest here.

USB power means you can run it from a phone charger or a power bank, so it can sit on a table far from a socket. Keep it indoors, since the listing marks it Indoor only. Its seller rank, #318 in Specialty Lighting, is weak for a listing with that many ratings, which can mean the ratings are shared with other variants of the same product.

  • Length: 10 m
  • LEDs: 100
  • Wattage: 3 W
  • Power: USB, 5 V DC
  • Colour temperature: 3000 K
  • Use: Indoor
  • Warranty: 18 months
  • Made in: India

Good

  • Highest rating here, 4.3 across 21,391.
  • Longest warranty here, 18 months.
  • Lowest listed draw, 3 W.

Watch out

  • Indoor only, per the listing.
  • Plan for a USB charger or power bank to run it.
  • A seller rank of #318 is weak for its rating count.

3. Crompton Galaxy 10 Meter 100 LED Copper String Light, USB: best value

₹129

4.2 out of 5 on Amazon.in (10,779 ratings)

₹129 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

The Crompton Galaxy is the same idea as the MANSAA for less money. On the day we checked it cost ₹129, the lowest price of the seven, with 4.2 stars across 10,779 ratings and a rank of #18 in Specialty Lighting. You get 10 metres of copper wire with 100 LEDs, a 5 V USB connection and a 1 year warranty.

Its listing gives the draw as 5 W, a little more than the MANSAA's 3 W, and calls the string water resistant. Treat that as protection from a splash on a windowsill, not a reason to hang it in the rain, because the details table still marks it for indoor use. If you want two matching strings for a pair of windows, this is the cheapest way to do it here.

  • Length: 10 m
  • LEDs: 100
  • Wattage: 5 W
  • Power: USB, 5 V
  • Use: Indoor
  • Warranty: 1 year
  • Made in: India

Good

  • Lowest price here, ₹129.
  • 1 year warranty.
  • Over 10,000 ratings at 4.2.

Watch out

  • Indoor use, per the details table.
  • Draws 5 W, more than the MANSAA.

4. Desidiya 30 Meter 300 LED Rice Lights, Warm White: best for long railings

₹199

4.0 out of 5 on Amazon.in (13,899 ratings)

₹199 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

For a long balcony railing or a staircase, length matters more than anything, and this Desidiya string gives you 30 metres with 300 LEDs for ₹199. That's three times the length of the copper strings for about the same money, with the same spacing of one LED every 10 cm. It ranked #4 in Specialty Lighting on the day we checked, with 4.0 stars.

Two things hold it back. Its title names balconies, but the details table marks it Indoor and the listing gives no water rating, so keep it under a roof and away from rain. The listing also gives no wattage and no warranty, so you can't work out its running cost from the page.

  • Length: 30 m
  • LEDs: 300
  • Wattage: Not listed
  • Power: Corded electric
  • Use: Indoor, per the details table
  • Warranty: Not listed
  • Made in: China

Good

  • Longest string here, 30 m.
  • 300 LEDs at 10 cm spacing.
  • Rank #4 in Specialty Lighting.

Watch out

  • No wattage or warranty on the listing.
  • Indoor only, despite balconies in the title.
  • Rating count pooled with other listings.

Before you pay: The 13,899 ratings on this page are pooled with other Desidiya listings, so they don't all describe this 30 metre string. Read the reviews that name the 30 metre length before you rely on the score.

5. Desidiya 10 Stars 150 LED Curtain String Lights, 3.5 m, 12 W, Warm White: best for a window

₹299

4.2 out of 5 on Amazon.in (5,451 ratings)

₹299 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

A curtain string hangs in drops from one top wire, which suits a window or a glass door better than a single line. This Desidiya curtain was the #1 seller in Specialty Lighting when we checked, with 4.2 stars across 5,451 ratings, for ₹299. You get 150 LEDs with ten star shapes across 3.5 metres, and a button on the adaptor changes the flash mode.

Of these seven, it's the only one with a stated rating against water. Its description gives IP44, which covers water splashed from any direction, and says the adaptor runs the string at 29 V. The details table lists a 12 W draw and marks it for indoor and outdoor use, so a covered balcony door works too.

  • Width: 3.5 m, per the title
  • LEDs: 150, with 10 stars
  • Wattage: 12 W
  • Power: Adaptor, 29 V low voltage, per the description
  • Water rating: IP44, per the description
  • Use: Indoor and outdoor
  • Made in: China

Good

  • IP44 splash rating stated.
  • Low voltage 29 V string.
  • #1 in Specialty Lighting.

Watch out

  • Mode count and length disagree on the listing.
  • Draws 12 W, twice the Philips.

Before you pay: The listing disagrees with itself in two places. Its title says 8 flashing modes, but one bullet says 4. The title also gives 3.5 metres, but the details table gives an item length of 400 cm. Check the photos, or ask the seller, before you pay.

6. The Purple Tree Diya LED Curtain Lights, 2.5 m, Multicolour: best for a diya theme

₹349

4.1 out of 5 on Amazon.in (15,175 ratings)

₹349 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

If you want the lights to look like Diwali even when they are off, this curtain hangs small diya shapes instead of plain bulbs. It cost ₹349 on the day we checked, with 4.1 stars across 15,175 ratings, the second largest count here, and a rank of #15 in Specialty Lighting. The details table gives 2.5 metres, 138 lights in multicolour, an Outdoor rating and a waterproof feature, and it's made in India.

The weak point is the listing itself. Its bullet points repeat search phrases about Diwali decoration and give no wattage, no plug type and no number of modes. Without a wattage you can't work out what a week of evenings will cost you.

  • Width: 2.5 m
  • Lights: 138
  • Colour: Multicolour
  • Wattage: Not listed
  • Use: Outdoor, waterproof feature listed
  • Warranty: Not listed
  • Made in: India

Good

  • Diya shapes suit the festival.
  • 15,175 ratings at 4.1.
  • Outdoor rating in the details table.

Watch out

  • No wattage, plug type or mode count stated.
  • Power source unclear, corded or USB.
  • Narrowest here, 2.5 m.

Before you pay: The details table lists Corded Electric as the power source and USB as the connectivity. Look at the plug in the listing photos, or ask the seller, so you know whether you need a wall socket or a USB charger.

7. fizzytech Outdoor String Lights E26 Bulb, 10 Meter, 20 LED, Warm White: best for a terrace party

₹1,616

4.0 out of 5 on Amazon.in (7,510 ratings)

₹1,616 (as of 18 Oct 2026, 04:55 IST)

Big round bulbs on a cable, the kind you see over cafe patios, give a terrace or a rooftop dinner more light than any fairy string. The fizzytech set gives 10 metres with 20 warm white E26 bulbs at 3000 K and 1500 lumens, for ₹1,616, the highest price here by a long way. It held 4.0 stars across 7,510 ratings and ranked #72 in Specialty Lighting.

It also draws the most power, 50 W per the details table. Over a Diwali week of six hours a night, that comes to about 2.1 units, more than the other strings with a listed wattage put together. Its bullets suggest covered celebration areas, and that is the safe place for it.

  • Length: 10 m
  • Bulbs: 20 E26 bulbs, per the title
  • Wattage: 50 W
  • Brightness: 1500 lumens
  • Colour temperature: 3000 K
  • Water rating: IP30
  • Warranty: Not listed
  • Made in: India

Good

  • Brightest here, 1500 lumens listed.
  • Bulb style for a terrace or patio.
  • 7,510 ratings at 4.0.

Watch out

  • IP30 means no protection against water.
  • Highest draw here, 50 W.
  • Most expensive here, ₹1,616.

Before you pay: The listing says waterproof, but the details table gives IP30. In an IP code the second digit covers water, and 0 means no protection against water, so hang this set under a roof. The title says 20 LED bulbs while the details table counts 25 lights, and the table lists both button control and app control. Ask the seller which is right before you pay.

How we compared

We have not hung these lights ourselves. On 18 October we read each Amazon.in listing in full: the title, the bullets, the details table, the price, the rating and the seller rank. After that, each one was set against the Warwickshire fire and rescue advice on decorative lights.

Where a listing says two different things, the card flags it, because you can't tell which is right until the box arrives. Prices, ratings and ranks on Amazon change often, so check the listing again before you pay.

Questions people ask

Which LED string light is best for Diwali 2026?

For most homes, the PHILIPS Starlit 12 m at ₹219, because it's rated for outdoor use, draws only 6 W and comes with clips. For indoor shelves, the MANSAA copper string had the highest rating of the seven, 4.3 across 21,391 ratings.

Can I leave Diwali lights on all night?

Fire services ask you to check cords and sockets before you decorate and not to overload sockets. To avoid hours of running with nobody watching, a smart plug with a schedule can switch a mains string or a USB charger off at a set time for you.

Are indoor fairy lights safe on a balcony?

Only if the balcony is covered and the string stays dry. The Warwickshire fire and rescue service advises lights designed for outdoor use outside, protected from rain or moisture. Of these seven, the Philips and The Purple Tree list outdoor use, and the Desidiya 10 Stars curtain states IP44.

When is Diwali 2026?

Diwali falls on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The Philips, Crompton and MANSAA listings showed a 10 day replacement window, so order by late October and switch each string on the day it arrives, in time to swap a faulty one.
