Quick verdict
For most people, Dr. Morepen's BG-03 combo is the safe pick, ₹669 for the meter and 50 strips, with 4.1 from 55,190 ratings. Its strips were the cheapest here too. If you want a phone app, BeatO CURV costs ₹464. AccuSure Simple is the cheapest meter at ₹440.
A glucometer is a small meter that reads your blood sugar from a drop of blood on a test strip. In India, most come as a kit with a lancing device, a few lancets and some strips. Amazon.in files them under Blood Glucose Monitors.
We compared six glucometers sold on Amazon.in. We looked at the meter price, the strips in the box, what a 50 strip refill costs, the standard each listing names, the rating, how many buyers stand behind it and the rank. Every number comes from the product pages on 31 Oct 2026, 03:48 IST.
Over a year, strips cost more than the meter, so we priced them too. A glucometer helps you track your sugar between visits. It doesn't replace your doctor's advice or lab tests.

How to choose
Count the strips, not only the meter
A meter is a one time buy. Strips are the cost you pay again and again, since each check takes one strip and one lancet. A CDC page on blood sugar checks says your doctor will tell you when and how often to check.
Say your doctor asks for one check a day. That's 365 strips a year. At the refill prices we saw, Dr. Morepen's strips come to about ₹4,190 a year. OneTouch's come to about ₹8,315. That gap is bigger than the gap between the meters. Lancets cost extra on top.
Look for ISO 15197 on the listing
ISO 15197 is the standard for blood glucose systems people check themselves with. Accu-Chek Active and AccuSure Simple name its 2013 version. OneTouch names EN ISO 15197:2015, the European edition. BeatO names ISO 13485:2016, which covers how a maker runs its quality system. It isn't an accuracy standard for the meter.
A standard on a listing is still the seller's claim. The FDA's page on glucose meters gives a simple check. Compare your meter with a blood glucose test done in a laboratory. Take the meter to your next lab test, and check your sugar on it at about the same time.
Store strips the right way
The CDC says test strips can be damaged by moisture, humidity or extreme temperatures. Keep the container closed tightly when you don't need a strip. Don't leave strips in a hot car or a steamy bathroom.
The FDA adds that improperly stored meters and strips may give less accurate results. It also warns against previously owned test strips. Buy sealed packs, check the expiry date, and match the strip name to your meter.
Pick by how you track readings
The CDC says most meters save your results for you and your health care team. Some use an app on your phone, and a written record works too. AccuSure Simple stores 1,000 results with the date and time. Dr. Morepen stores 300. BeatO CURV saves each reading in its app.
Bring the record to every visit, so your doctor sees the pattern, not one number. If your doctor also asks you to watch your weight, our weighing scale guide compares those.
Keep the meter and lancets to yourself
The CDC says not to share blood sugar monitoring equipment, especially lancets, with anyone, even other family members. The FDA says a meter shouldn't be shared, to cut the risk of infections carried in blood. If two people at home check their sugar, each needs a meter and lancets.
Wash your hands with soap and warm water, and dry them well before each check, the CDC says. Cold hands make it harder to get blood, so warm them first. The CDC also suggests that someone else learns your meter, in case you're sick.

How we compared
We opened each Amazon.in product page on 31 Oct 2026, 03:48 IST and copied the price, the rating, the number of ratings and the rank in Blood Glucose Monitors. We also opened each meter's 50 strip refill page and copied its price. Cost per strip is that price divided by 50, and the year figure is 365 strips. Standards and claims appear as each listing states them.
We didn't buy these meters, so nothing here describes how accurate they are in use. A glucometer doesn't replace your doctor or lab tests. The checking advice comes from the FDA and the CDC. Prices on Amazon.in change often, so yours may not match the price on the day we checked. Our home section has more guides for the house.
Questions people ask
Which glucometer is best in India?
On the day we checked, Dr. Morepen's BG-03 combo had 4.1 from 55,190 ratings, at ₹669 with 50 strips. It ranked #2 in Blood Glucose Monitors, and its strips were the cheapest here. Accu-Chek Instant S claimed the fastest result. AccuSure Simple was the cheapest meter at ₹440. If you also check blood pressure at home, our BP monitor guide compares those.
How much do glucometer strips cost in India?
For the six meters here, a 50 strip refill cost ₹574 to ₹1,139 on Amazon.in when we checked. That's about ₹11.48 a strip for Dr. Morepen and about ₹22.78 for OneTouch. At one check a day, the gap comes to about ₹4,124 a year.
Is a home glucometer accurate?
Look for ISO 15197 on the listing, the standard for self check blood glucose systems. Even then, the FDA suggests you compare your meter with a lab test. Store strips as the label says, since the FDA says badly stored strips may give less accurate results.
What blood sugar reading should I aim for?
Ask your doctor. The CDC lists 80 to 130 mg/dL before meals and below 180 mg/dL 1 to 2 hours after a meal. Those targets are for most people with diabetes who aren't pregnant. The CDC says your own target may be different.
Can family members share one glucometer?
No. The CDC says not to share blood sugar monitoring equipment, especially lancets, even with family members. The FDA says a meter shouldn't be shared, to cut the risk of infections carried in blood. Each person needs their own meter and lancets.
