Quick verdict
For most people, the VENUS V-4400 is the safest pick. It's the one mask here whose approval number, TC-84A-8126, we found on NIOSH's own list. It costs ₹455 for 10, about ₹46 a mask, with a 4.3 from 305 ratings. For an Indian mark, Filtra prints the ISI mark to IS 9473 and costs ₹331 for 25. The cheapest per mask, HYDRISE at about ₹12, is sold as N95, but its own details call it a washable cloth mask.
When the air turns smoky, a mask is the cheapest cover you can buy. On Amazon.in, the best selling N95 masks cost between ₹331 and ₹749 a pack.
Nearly every title says N95. Few back it up. Only one of these six gives an approval number we could find on NIOSH's list. Others list company certificates, lab claims or nothing at all.
We read six best selling listings line by line. We checked each approval number against the official list, and flagged every line that contradicts another. Here's what each one proves, and what it only claims.

How to choose
Look for a number, not the word N95
Almost every title on Amazon.in says N95. The word alone proves little. According to Wikipedia's N95 page, N95 means a mask meets the US NIOSH standard and filters at least 95% of airborne particles. The N means it isn't resistant to oil.
A NIOSH approval has a number in the form TC-84A plus four digits. Type the digits into the NIOSH Certified Equipment List. A real entry names the maker and the model. Venus's valved V-1100, for example, shows up as TC-84A-7880, approved on 24 October 2017.
Or check the ISI licence
India's own standard for these masks is IS 9473. A mask certified to it carries the ISI mark, with a CM/L licence number beside it.
The BIS Care app from the Bureau of Indian Standards has a Verify Licence Details tool. Enter the CM/L number and it shows the licence holder. If the name doesn't match the box, don't trust the mark.
Fit matters as much as the filter
A mask filters only the air that passes through it. Wikipedia's N95 page notes that facial hair at the sealing edge makes a mask leak. It also says a tight mask needs a seal check each time you put it on.
Press the nose clip to the shape of your nose. Then breathe out hard and feel for air at the edges. Every mask here is for adults. Venus, HYDRISE and OxiClear list 18+ in their details.
Valve or no valve
A valve makes breathing out easier and cuts fog on glasses, Wikipedia says. The catch is the air you breathe out. A valved mask protects the people around you only about as well as a surgical or cloth mask.
In this group, OxiClear has a valve. The Venus V-4400's NIOSH entry and the SWASA PLUS title both say no valve. The other three listings don't say either way.
When to throw a mask away
Wikipedia says disposable masks like these aren't approved for routine decontamination and reuse. At work, it adds, a mask can be worn until it's damaged, dirty or harder to breathe through, unless the maker sets a time.
N series masks also don't stop gases or vapours. Smoke smell can still get through. At home, an air purifier cleans the air in a whole room. This page isn't medical advice. If you have a heart or lung condition, ask your doctor before you wear a tight mask.
1. VENUS V-4400 N95 Face Mask, Pack of 10: best overall
VENUS ranks first in Amazon.in's medical respirator masks list, at ₹455 for a pack of 10. That's about ₹46 a mask, with a 4.3 rating from 305 buyers. A bullet gives its NIOSH approval as TC-84A-8126. We looked that number up on the NIOSH Certified Equipment List, the US register of approved respirators.
The entry names Venus Safety & Health as the holder and V-4400N95 as the model, approved on 17 December 2018. It lists no exhalation valve, and it marks the approval as not obsolete. The mask folds flat, with head loops and an aluminium nose clip. It's disposable, and the warranty line reads No. The maker is Venus Safety & Health Pvt Ltd in Navi Mumbai.
- Approval: NIOSH TC-84A-8126, on the NIOSH list
- Valve: None, per the NIOSH entry
- Straps: Head loops
- Shape: Fold flat
- Nose clip: Aluminium
- Reuse: Disposable
- Pack: 10 masks
- Warranty: No
Good
- Approval number matches NIOSH's own list.
- #1 in respirator masks on Amazon.in.
- About ₹46 a mask.
Watch out
- Disposable, so the pack runs out.
- Only 305 ratings behind the 4.3.
Before you pay: Check that TC-84A-8126 is printed on the masks you receive. If the number is missing or different, send the pack back while the return window is open.
2. Filtra N95 Mask with Ear Loops, Box of 25: indian standard
Filtra sells a box of 25 for ₹331, about ₹13 a mask. A bullet says each mask carries the printed ISI mark, certified to IS 9473. On the Bureau of Indian Standards' list, IS 9473:2002 is the standard for filtering half masks that protect against particles. The details table agrees, with its specification line reading ISI certified.
The title adds FFP2, a European class. A bullet claims over 99% filtration of 0.1 micron particles, through 5 layers with a double filter layer. The masks have thick ear loops and a coated nose clip, and they're disposable. The weak spot is the proof behind the rating. Only 42 buyers rated it, on a listing first available on 21 December 2023.
- Mark: ISI to IS 9473, per a bullet
- Also claims: FFP2
- Filtration claim: Over 99% at 0.1 micron, per a bullet
- Straps: Ear loops
- Layers: 5
- Reuse: Disposable
- Pack: 25 masks
- First listed: 21 Dec 2023
Good
- ISI mark to India's mask standard.
- About ₹13 a mask.
- Details table backs the ISI claim.
Watch out
- Only 42 ratings so far.
- No licence number on the listing.
Before you pay: Find the CM/L licence number beside the ISI mark on the mask. Type it into Verify Licence Details in the BIS Care app. The record should name the same maker and product.
3. HYDRISE Premium N95 Mask, Pack of 40: lowest cost
HYDRISE packs 40 masks for ₹483, about ₹12 each, the lowest cost per mask here. It ranks third in the respirator masks list, with a 4.2 from 510 buyers. The bullets describe 5 layers, 2 of them meltblown filter fabric, plus a built in nose pin and 40 separate pouches. According to the listing, the masks were designed in France and made in India.
The listing doesn't agree with itself. The title says N95, yet the details table gives the item type and the generic name as Cloth Mask. Its care line says Washable, and reusability says Reusable. The certificate bullet lists CE, GMP, ISO 9001, ISO 13485 and EN 149, but it calls them a certified company. That describes the maker, not an approval for this mask. No NIOSH or ISI number appears.
- Mark: Company certificates only
- Straps: Ear loops
- Layers: 5, 2 meltblown
- Item type: Cloth Mask, per the details
- Care: Washable, per the details
- Pack: 40 masks
- Age: 18+ years
Good
- Lowest cost per mask, about ₹12.
- 510 ratings, 4.2 average.
- Each mask in its own pouch.
Watch out
- Details call it a washable cloth mask.
- No approval number for the mask.
Before you pay: Wikipedia's N95 page says disposable N95 masks aren't approved for routine decontamination and reuse. A mask sold as N95 and washable at once needs proof. Ask the seller for a NIOSH or ISI number before you pay.
4. SWASA PLUS PM0.3 Nanofiber Reusable N95 Mask, Pack of 10: highest rated
SWASA PLUS holds the highest rating in this group, 4.4 from 206 buyers. A pack of 10 costs ₹538, about ₹54 a mask, and it ranks sixth in the respirator masks list. The title names a PM0.3 nanofiber filter and no valve. The details table lists a pull on fit and calls the mask reusable.
That's nearly all the listing says. On the day we checked, the page had no bullet points and no washing steps. It also gave no approval number behind the N95 in its title. The details table gives 130 grams for the pack, and the listing first went up on 18 August 2021.
- Mark: None named
- Filter: PM0.3 nanofiber, per the title
- Valve: None, per the title
- Straps: Pull on
- Reuse: Reusable, no care steps
- Pack: 10 masks
- Weight: 130 g
Good
- Highest rating here, 4.4.
- No valve, per the title.
- Sold as reusable.
Watch out
- No approval number on the page.
- No washing or reuse steps.
Before you pay: Ask the seller how many times one mask can be worn, and how to clean it. Without a clear answer, treat it like a disposable mask.
5. OxiClear N99 Anti Pollution Face Mask with 4 Carbon Filters: most ratings
₹749
4.0 out of 5 on Amazon.in (11,726 ratings)
₹749 (as of 26 Oct 2026, 02:59 IST)
OxiClear has by far the most ratings here, 4.0 from 11,726 buyers. It ranks first in Amazon.in's reusable respirators list. The title claims N99 and D.R.D.O certified. No approval or certificate number shows on the page for either claim. The mask also has an air valve, which a bullet says sits behind its own 5 layer filter. The details table states a 7 day maker warranty, and the maker is OxiClear of Machhiwara, Punjab.
- Marks claimed: N99, DRDO, no number shown
- Valve: Yes, filtered, per a bullet
- Filters: 4 activated carbon, 21 days each

- Age: 18+ years
Good
- Most ratings here, 11,726.
- Filters swap out, mask washes.

Watch out
- No certificate number for N99 or DRDO.
- Valve lets breath out.
Before you pay: Wikipedia's N95 page says a valved mask protects people around you only about as well as a surgical or cloth mask. If you wear a mask for their sake too, pick one with no valve.
6. Weldots Premium N95 Mask, Pack of 3: lowest rated
₹449
3.6 out of 5 on Amazon.in (4,997 ratings)
₹449 (as of 26 Oct 2026, 02:59 IST)
Weldots has the second most ratings here, 4,997, but the lowest average, 3.6. A pack of 3 costs ₹449, about ₹150 a mask. The listing calls the masks reusable. They have headbands, a 3D cup shape and an aluminium nose strip, which a bullet says stops glasses fogging up. The bullets describe 6 layers, 2 of them meltblown.
The title stacks five marks: N95, KF94, FFP2, DRDO and ISI (BIS) certified. A bullet says DRDO and BIS approved labs measured its filter efficiency at over 95%. A lab result isn't an approval, though. The page shows no NIOSH number and no ISI licence number. The warranty line only gives an email address, and the item is marked non returnable.
- Marks claimed: N95, KF94, FFP2, DRDO, ISI
- Number shown: None
- Straps: Headbands
- Shape: 3D cup
- Layers: 6, 2 meltblown
- Reuse: Reusable

How we compared
We opened each Amazon.in product page on 26 Oct 2026, 02:59 IST and copied the price, the pack size, the rating, the number of ratings, the rank, the straps, the reuse lines and every certification claim. We picked six adult masks from Amazon.in's best seller list for medical respirator masks, plus the top reusable respirator, to cover each price step and the main brands.
On NIOSH's own list, we looked up each NIOSH number a listing gave, and read the Bureau of Indian Standards pages for IS 9473 and the BIS Care app. We have not worn any of these masks, and we won't pretend otherwise. Where a listing says two different things, we print both and flag it. Prices on Amazon.in change often, so the price on the day we checked may differ from the one you see.
Questions people ask
Which N95 mask is best for pollution in India?
Among these six, the VENUS V-4400 has the strongest case. Its approval number, TC-84A-8126, appears on NIOSH's own list, and it ranks first in Amazon.in's respirator masks list. It cost ₹455 for 10 on the day we checked.
How can I check if an N95 mask is real?
Look for a TC-84A approval number on the mask, then find it on the NIOSH Certified Equipment List. For an ISI mark, enter the CM/L licence number in the BIS Care app. The maker named in the record should match the box.
Can I wash an N95 mask and wear it again?
Wikipedia's N95 page says disposable N95 masks aren't approved for routine decontamination and reuse. Two listings here call their N95 masks washable, and neither shows an approval number. Follow the maker's own care steps, or treat the mask as disposable.
Is a mask with a valve better for pollution?
A valve makes breathing out easier and cuts fog on glasses. It doesn't filter the air you breathe out as well, though. Wikipedia says a valved mask protects others about as well as a surgical or cloth mask.
Does a humidifier clean smoggy air at home?
No. A humidifier adds water to the air, and it doesn't filter out smoke or dust particles. Our humidifier guide explains when one helps. For smoke and dust indoors, an air purifier does that job instead.
