How to choose
Wear layers, not one heavy layer
India's weather office, IMD, gives this advice for a cold wave. In a 2023 press release, it says to wear several layers of loose fitting, light weight, warm woollen clothing rather than one layer of heavy cloth. A thermal is the first of those layers.
None of our six is wool. So put a wool sweater or a jacket over the thermal. IMD also says to cover your head, neck, hands and toes. It says most heat loss happens through those parts. Indoors, a room heater does more than one more layer can.
Stay dry, and take a layer off when you sweat
Sweat matters more than most buyers think. A CDC page on cold weather says sweating makes your body lose heat faster. Its advice: when it's very cold and you start to sweat, take off 1 or more layers. IMD says the same in its own words. Keep dry, and change wet clothes at once.
So if you walk, ride or work hard in the cold, wear layers you can remove. Boldfit and Lux Cozi claim their fabrics wick sweat. Those are brand claims, and neither listing shows a test.
Pick a set or a top
Two of our six come as sets. Lux Cottswool's has a top and a pyjama for ₹746. Boldfit's has a top and pants for ₹998. The other four sell a top only. Jockey sells its matching long johns on their own listing.

Get the fit and size right
Check the chest size in centimetres, not only the letter. Lux Cottswool's chart runs from a 96 cm chest at XS to 132 cm at 4XL. Letter sizes differ between brands.
Fit differs too. Dixcy Scott sells a body hugging fit, made to slide under a shirt. IMD's advice names loose fitting layers. If you plan to wear a thermal under a fitted shirt, a snug one fits better. Under a loose sweater, you've got more room.
Wash it the way the label says
Care lines differ more than prices do. Lux Cottswool asks for a gentle wash in lukewarm water, no bleach and no steam iron. Its listing also warns that colour may bleed in every wash. Wash a dark thermal apart from light clothes.
The other five list machine wash. Read the label on the piece you get, since it can differ from the listing. Dry it fully before you wear it again. IMD's keep dry advice applies here too.

The detail table lists cotton. Lux Industries in Kolkata makes it, and it's been on Amazon.in since November 2016. Sizes run from XS to 4XL. On the size chart, that's a chest of 96 cm to 132 cm and a waist of 66 cm to 101 cm. The care line is strict. Wash it gently in lukewarm water, don't bleach it and don't steam iron it.

The title calls the fabric super combed cotton rich and names StayWarm Technology. The detail table says cotton blend, without a mix. So the exact share of cotton isn't on the page. Per the same table, it's medium weight, with a round neck and full sleeves. It's made in India. Matching long johns sit on their own listing, at ₹589 with 4.2 from 4,423 ratings.

Boldfit's ThermaCore set sat at #25 in Men's Base Layers & Compression. It cost ₹998, the highest price here, for a top and a pair of pants. It had 4.1 from 630 ratings.
This is the only pick that lists its full fabric mix: 60% cotton, 12% viscose and 28% polyester, in a ribbed knit. Boldfit claims its BOLDTECH system wicks away sweat. It also calls the fabric anti microbial. Those are the brand's claims, and the listing shows no test for them. The top has a deep round neck and cuffs on the sleeves. It's made in India and on sale since October 2024.

BODYCARE's QUILT top had 4.4 from 234 ratings, the highest rating in this guide. It's also the smallest pool of the six. It cost ₹773 and sat at #27 in Men's Base Layers & Compression.
The bullets describe a quilted fabric. Polyfill sits between 2 layers of cotton, they say, for softness and warmth. The detail table tells a different story. Its material line says Single Jersey, a plain knit. We can't tell which one is right from the page. Bodycare International makes it in India, and it's been on Amazon.in since December 2022.

Per the bullets, a brushed fleece lines the inside, and the outer fabric is a stretchable blend. They also claim moisture wicking. The detail table only says ultra soft cotton, without a mix. Amazon.in shows it on sale since 4 November 2025. So its ratings cover less than one winter. Like the other five, it's made in India.
